AUTHORIZED ECONOMIC OPERATOR (AEO)
Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) are key players in international trade. Their role is crucial in all customs-related procedures.
The AEO is a status that any trader within the European Union can obtain, meaning that the EU recognises the reliability of their professional activity in customs matters.
This certification is voluntary; however, EU member states often encourage customs brokers and large importers and exporters to obtain and maintain this status through their customs authorities.
Authorised traders were introduced primarily to strengthen the security of international supply chains, following the example of the C-TPAT programme in the United States.
These initiatives aim primarily to protect the supply chain from threats such as terrorism and drug trafficking by fostering collaboration between customs authorities and private-sector companies to implement strict security measures throughout all stages of international trade.
Vicasso was one of the first companies in Spain’s logistics sector to obtain certification as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), reflecting its strong commitment to security and reliability across the international supply chain.
