INTRASTAT - EORI

In international trade within the European Union, two key requirements ensure proper management and traceability of operations: the EORI and Intrastat systems. Both are distinct yet complementary obligations that enable companies to operate legally, efficiently, and transparently within the European customs and statistical framework.

Intrastat is the mandatory statistical declaration that reports on trade in goods between European Union member states. It’s not a tax, but a legal requirement aimed at collecting data on the movement of goods. In a freight forwarding company, proper Intrastat management ensures that clients meet their legal obligations, avoid compliance issues, and maintain transparency in their international operations.

The EORI (Economic Operators Registration and Identification) number is a unique identifier assigned by the customs authorities of the European Union to companies and and individuals carrying out import or export operations within the EU customs territory. This number is mandatory for all companies involved in customs procedures, as it streamlines identification with the authorities and speeds up international trade processes.

TYPE OF OPERATION

If you are a natural or legal person with a VAT number and you carry out supplies (dispatches), intra-Community acquisitions (arrivals), or similar transactions involving the exchange of goods between Spain and another EU member state, you must correctly identify the corresponding type of operation for the Intrastat declaration.

VOLUME OF OPERATIONS

The volume of intra-Community operations carried out during the current financial year exceeds the exemption threshold established by current regulations.

It is essential to have the right guidance to determine whether your company is subject to the responsibility and obligation of submitting the Intrastat declaration.
